An Ode to Johnny Fucking Football

So last night Johnny Manziel played, if he’s smart, the last game he will ever play for free when he rallied Texas A&M over Duke in some bowl game inexplicably being played right as New Year’s Eve was heating up (not literally—it’s still pretty fucking cold in Minnesota).  It was especially sweet for me, considering JFF, who’s already one of my favorites of all time, not only did JFF things per usual, but because it was against Duke, who I absolutely fucking despise (sorry Tyus, can’t root for you now).  Now I realize fucking Christian "Loser Loser Loser Loser Winner" Laettner or those stupid fucking Plumlees and Coach K weren't out there, but it's still Duke, and I can hate whoever I want.  Anyways,

I’ve been a huge JFF backer since approximately the second I knew he existed.  He’s the shit, and if you disagree you’re probably taking yourself a little too seriously.  It’s fucking ludicrous how ESPN and the rest of the national media vilified him all off season for doing the exact things young college kids who come from money do.  I’m not rich, but I am in college, and I can absolutely fucking assure you if I was in the limelight all the time and the media cared what I was up to, the things I do every weekend could be manipulated to make me look like an out-of-control entitled asshole too.  It was fucking ESPN Breaking News when JFF dared go to a frat party for a few brews.  I was getting fucking mobile alert texts about when he was spotted at an NBA game or at the casino, as if he were doing it illegally.  Newsflash—the kid’s parents are rich as fuck.  They come from that Texas oil money.  He can afford to do all this shit.  His parents bought him a goddamn Mercedes for his birthday in high school for Chrissakes.  So yeah, I don’t think he was talking a couple hundred bucks under the table from A&M's Buddy Garrity and I don’t think it should have been news when he was seen doing rich people stuff.  Rich kids do rich people stuff because their parents are rich, that’s how the world works people, read a book.  Not only that, but if it was a national story every time I went out to a house party or a college bar for a few, I could be made to look like an entitled prick who needs to be put in his place too, but in reality it’s just the normal shit that every normal college kid does.  The narrative that was spun about Manziel is flat out bullshit and I can fucking guarantee that if you put me is his shoes with all that money and newfound celebrity and scrutiny while being the most famous college athlete in the county, I would not have handled it even as well as he did.  I probably would have been suspended or kicked out of multiple schools by now and Skip Bayless would be babbling about how I’m being irresponsible and immature as Stephen A. Smith googled Slava Medvedenko’s career stats quick.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about the whole JFF drama that played out throughout the balance of the past year and a half is that he was able to seemingly flip the switch and block out all the hate he got from every direction and be the best player in college football.  Yep, I said it.  He was robbed of the Heisman Trophy this year.  He played a tougher schedule than Jameis and had better numbers.  He had better numbers this year than last year and his offense put up 41 points or more in every game except 2 this year, including 42 against Alabama and 41 against Auburn.  He rallied his team from double digit deficits it felt like every week.  Sure the team wasn’t as successful as people predicted, but that had nothing to do with Manziel and everything to do with their sieve of a defense.  On top of all these accolades, he provided us with highlights like these week in week out.

I'm gonna miss him...............Unless........
